Healthy Afghan Girl Program Evaluation

April 2009

Orphan girls who live with their widowed mothers at Marastoon.

The Healthy Afghan Girl program is an offshoot of a PARSA program called The Healthy Afghan Community. It is designed to address fundamental issues that Afghans and their families face as they attempt to find stability and peace in their communities.

The Healthy Afghan Girl program was piloted in 2008 in two girls schools and in the girls orphanage, Allahoddin. The Ministry of Education has asked us to try to expand the program to other girls schools and this year we will be seeking funding to develop this program into a program that can be conducted in schools across the country.

Nancy Wilson Newbrander conducted an evaluation of the program at our request. We value her extensive experience in this country, as well as in education, and thought we would share the results of the evaluation with those of you interested in girls education in Afghanistan.
